With the launch of an Instagram teaser this morning for Sauvage, the forthcoming Dior scent of which he’s the face, he may just have hit peak Depp-ness: boozy growl, guitar, and most importantly, the fistful of rings. Since bursting onto the scene as a teen heartthrob in the late eighties, the actor’s had an ever-unfolding array of styles, from his grungey, beanie-wearing glory circa his love affair with Ms. Moss, to the zoot suits and purple lenses of the aughts. Under the tutelage of pal Keith Richards, his accessories game reached dizzy new highs (particularly on press junkets for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise); he sometimes tripled up on scarves, and was often spotted wearing wallet chains.
His romance with Amber Heard, herself relatively conservative when it comes to red-carpet dressing, doesn’t seem to have dampened his fervor for rakish excess; as of this writing, the necklaces, cuffs, and rings all remain wardrobe staples.
