Bahrain Goes Off The Wall

From now on, skateboarders and sneaker aficionados have a new hotspot to shop at in Bahrain: Vans just opened its first store (operated by Sun & Sand Sports) with an action-filled opening event at Bahrain City Center.

To celebrate the launch, Vans welcomed 18 skateboarders and BMX riders from across Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, who competed for the coveted “Vans Flow Rider 2014” title. The first prize in the skateboarding competition was claimed by Manama-based skater Maxance Daenen, who received BHD 1,000 (AED/SAR 9,740) worth of Vans prizes as a reward, while the BMX competition was won by Kuwaiti rider Mansour Al Safran.

Vans killed two birds with one stone by launching two new footwear collections on the same evening: one that features artwork from The Beatles‘ legendary “Yellow Submarine” album, as well as another sneaker collection designed in collaboration with Della, a sustainable fashion company based in Ghana.

After the event, Vans officially announced that it would donate the ramp used in the competition to a local skate park—so grab your board and ride.
