It’s been a good year so far for Hussein Chalayan : after being nominated Creative Director for Vionnet’s Demi-Couture line earlier this year, the British-Turkish Cypriot designer announced the relaunch of his eponymous menswear brand, via a capsule collection.
The designer created 22 menswear looks for Spring-Summer 2015 via a capsule collection named Moor’s Chorus, marking the re-launch of his menswear line, which was put on hold roughly eight years ago. His label (renamed to just “Chalayan” in 2010), which comprises both womenswear and menswear, was founded in 1994.
“I missed menswear, and this had been on the cards for a long time,” Chalayan told WWD. “We had a really good following, especially in the worlds of art and architecture, and our customers haven’t stopped asking about it. Some are still wearing their old [Hussein Chalayan] clothes.”
According to Chalayan, the capsule collection is manufactured in Italy and will introduce new shapes for menswear, with a particular emphasis on the fit, patterns, and prints. “The collection consists of Moorish-inspired weaves and jacquard patterns in light fresh colors seen in form of blousons, jackets, trousers, shorts, and layered shirts providing rich ingredients for extensive texture mixing,” he concluded.
