Real People Take the Lead in Emperor 1688’s Short Film

Dubai-based label Emperor 1688 founded by three brothers Babak, Haman, and Farhan Golkar, released a short film titled Nikita as part of the brand’s film series that captures the urban aesthetic of the label through real people—or “Emperors” as the designers refer to them. Shot and directed by the brothers, Babak Golkar explained to Style.com/Arabia about the vision behind launching the video series, “The people around us are what inspires Emperor 1688. Fashion is changing at lightning speed and the very nature of the industry is shifting. Customers want to feel an emotional connection with the brand, feel an experience when they shop in the boutique; they want to see something they love on social media and be able to buy it straight away.”

Set to the feel good song Under My Bed by Adam Agin, the black and white clip follows a night out with Nikita, as he explores Dubai wearing a shoulder zip detail shirt from the brand’s menswear collection. Golkar explained further about the concept of casting real people in this film as well as in the upcoming installments, “By using people around us who wear Emperor 1688 themselves, it literally takes the collections to the streets. Nikita is one such guy, he really captures the essence and character of Emperor 1688. You see the film, you feel an affinity with its message, and are then able to walk away with a part of it—in this case one of our shirts.”
