Johnny Depp Digs Grave for Jewelry in the New Dior Sauvage Film

We knew we were in for a flawlessly shot, over-the-top film when the teasers of the Dior Sauvage campaign featuring an ultra-styled Johnny Depp, with Bad to the Bone as the soundtrack, were released. And we were on the money. The film for the scent Sauvage, directed by French fashion photographer and video music director Jean-Baptiste Mondino, takes 52-year-old Depp from his somber apartment to the desert in a Dodge Charger. Here, in the wild, he digs a hole and proceeds to bury all his signature jewelry. Having done so, he looks up misty-eyed (baring a striking resemblance to Captian Jack Sparrow, thanks to the heavy liner), as his voice in the background proclaims, “It’s magic.”

The theme of the video is on point with the name of the new fragrance—Sauvage, French for “wild” or “natural”—and so is the minimal, no-fuss ombré blue bottle. As for Depp, he’s delivered what was expected of him: celebrity icon meets fashion meets Captain Jack Sparrow.
