Smells Like Rap Spirit

Jay Z just did it, and now it’s Pitbull’s turn. Miami-born rapper, Armando ‘Pitbull’ Pérez, has announced his eponymous first fragrances, for both men and women—and it would appear that he is also debuting a softer side, as well.

I grew up in the ‘80s with sharp-dressed hipsters that always had a heavy smell to them. Personally I wasn’t a big fan of that―I was more about a softer, sexier smell,” the rapper told WWD, referring to the subtle scents of sun-drenched bergamot, mandarin, woods, rich tonka bean, and amber ingredients which can be found in his men’s fragrance.

The new perfumes come in a sleek black or white bottle design and will be unveiled during Pitbull’s New Year’s Eve concert in Miami, although pre-sales will begin next month with launch partner, Jacavi Worldwide, and global licensing partner, Parlux Ltd., exclusively on Amazon.com,  through until Valentine’s Day on February 14th.

Limited edition versions are also in the pipeline (Pitbull Miami, Pitbull Rio, Pitbull Berlin, Pitbull London), set for a late 2015 launch. From there, the rapper intends to develop his trademark even further by adding a lifestyle dimension to it. “I’m definitely going to get into fashion, accessories, and beauty products,” he continued. “But it’s all about cutting the right deal, to be able to control your own destiny. The last thing I want to do is get caught up in a corporate thing, where everybody’s just doing it textbook. I want to innovate.”
