We might want to set you up with the best of the bespoke world, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take off your tie and embark on the road less traveled. The only question is, how are you going to get there?
Surprisingly, the Russians and the Americans, together, might have the answer.
The 2016 Chevrolet NIVA, an off-roading SUV and the result of a 12-year collaboration between General Motors and the Russian AvtoVAZ, made its debut at this year’s Moscow Auto Show (August 29th to September 7th).
The NIVA features all the fittings and fixtures needed to handle those lonely roads. Standing above the boulders with the higher road clearance and oversized wheels and tires, the underbody is protected by a skid plate, a roof rack holding a spare wheel and spotlights, as well as a snorkel should you want to take a swim. The interior sports an interesting gauge package that is tailored to a traveler’s needs with a compass, outdoor thermometer, and an inclinometer (slope meter) for those black diamond slopes.
Under the hood, the NIVA’s full range of specs have yet to be revealed, but so far we know that it will be equipped with a 1.8L gas engine, promising a boost of 30% in torque from the current model, as well as a low and high range of gear settings to handle the most precarious of terrain.
And if you’re feeling lonely outside of the city limits, we might have the ideal companion for you—just don’t expect it to be much of a conversationalist.
Price to be announced.
