Football fans: no need to hop on a plane to Rio de Janeiro to get a glimpse of FIFA’s golden trophy, as it’s currently on a regional tour.
The chunky piece of gold is now in Saudi Arabia, where it will be on display until tomorrow, before moving to Doha, and then spending two days in the UAE.
“This tour is an exclusive initiative from Coca-Cola, whereby the trophy travels around several markets, allowing millions of people a chance to revel in its glory and experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup in their own communities, building up the anticipation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Rio de Janeiro,” reads an official press release.
During its 9 months journey, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour, which started on September 12th in Brazil, will visit over 89 countries, including ones in the Gulf, Asia, Europe, and South America.
This comes right in time for the FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2013, which kicks off on December 11th and lasts until December 21st – and let’s not forget that Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
To follow the trophy on tour, head over to FIFA’s website, which features an interactive map that depicts the journey of the infamous golden trophy.
