While the bloodline of the prized Arabian horse can be found in most riding horses today, this breed has been galloping free across the Arabian Peninsula for 4,500 years.
Arabian horses are equipped with incredible speed, agility, grace, and keen intelligence, so it’s no wonder the Bedouins honored their horses so much so that they brought them into their tents to shelter them from the cold desert nights. For centuries, Arabian horses have been used for transportation along trade routes and as formidable soldiers in war, but now find themselves commonly used for endurance riding and equestrian sports.
Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and the UAE Minister of Finance, the Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship is the region’s “Grand Event” honoring the Arabian horse. Taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre and running from March 20-22 in conjunction with the 10th Dubai International Horse Fair, the competition of purebred Arabian horses will culminate with the most exceptional horses competing for the grand prizes in the Championship classes. Last year’s winnings totaled around US $4 million (approximately 14.7 million AED/SAR). Giddy up.
