Lewis Hamilton, who described his start as “probably the best” of his Formula 1 career secured the 2014 Grand Prix championship title with a victory at the Abu Dhabi Yas Marina circuit this Sunday. It was this start that enabled Hamilton to overtake Mercedes teammate and rival Nico Rosberg with a reaction time of just two tenths of a second.

Hamilton then held off Williams’ driver Felipe Massa to take the title. Rosberg, meanwhile reported a loss of power over the radio and dropped out of contention when his ERS failed midway through, ultimately classifying 14th.

This is Hamilton’s second world title, following having first earned the crown with McLaren in 2008. Mercedes also sets the outright record for the most victories in a Formula 1 season, with Hamilton’s triumph taking the team’s total wins to 16.
