Seven–time world champion Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher will slowly be brought out of a medically-induced coma over the course of the next couple of months, as his condition improves following a devastating ski accident on December 29th. While skiing in the French Alps at the Meribel resort, Schumacher suffered a traumatic blow to the head in a near deadly fall. At the Grenoble University Hospital, he was plunged into a coma to allow his brain to heal by reducing its active functions.

Since then, doctors have operated on Schumacher twice to remove blood clots and relieve pressure on his brain; he continues to face a long and arduous recovery and receives around-the-clock care. Promisingly, French newspaper L’Equipe has reported that Schumacher has undergone numerous neurological tests and has since responded to commands by blinking.
