Video: Carve the Air

In honor of Pharrell being named guest editor for the April edition of Red Bull’s The Red Bulletin magazine, the famed music producer hit the streets of Los Angeles in his Mountie cap with the expert rider Nigel Sylvester to discuss the culture of BMX cycling.

In the video above, reminiscing about his roots, Pharrell explains that he has always been close to the BMX culture—from using it as a simple means of transportation as a child, to riding in style in his earlier music videos, when he first made his mark as a distinct and versatile artist. So it’s no wonder that he would venture out with BMX rider Nigel Sylvester to “dispel misconceptions…about riders—about what they can do and what they can be.”

It doesn’t take much to see the effort and creativity that goes into the sport as a BMX bike rider manipulates his surroundings with the flair of an artist. As contemplated by the two men, when a rider is in his zone, “He’s an artist—he’s carving the air.”
