Dubai Sat-2 captures image of Mecca from space

The number of visitors in Mecca during Ramadan is the highest throughout the year but there are still many who can’t travel to the holy site and instead wait to catch a glimpse of it on TV—now, they can see Mecca from a completely new angle from outer space through an image captured by the DubaiSat-2 satellite, owned and operated by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre. The one-meter resolution image of Mecca shows the extent of the ongoing large-scale expansion of the site. The DubaiSat-2 provides high-quality satellite imagery to several institutions, within the region and abroad that can be used in urban planning, disaster management, environmental monitoring, mapping, and scientific research.
