Will Jordan’s “Theeb” Oscar Nominated Film Win on Sunday?

Theeb, which means “wolf” in Arabic, is the Jordanian movie directed by Naji Abu Nowar that will be vying for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards ceremony, taking place this Sunday, February 28th. A first nomination for Jordan, the period drama is set against the backdrop of the Hejaz Province desert during WWI in 1961. The story unfolds to feature two young orphaned Bedouin brothers named Theeb and Hussein who go on to encounter a British army officer in the desert. Throughout the trio’s journey together, a number of misfortunate events arise.

As we wait to find out if Theeb’s Oscar nomination turns into a win, we look back at its existing honors, which include a 2016 BAFTA; Best Director at the 2014 Venice Film Festival, and Best Arab Film and Best Narrative Film at the 2014 Abu Dhabi Film Festival.
