In a major move for the regional gaming industry, Abu Dhabi is set to have the world’s first eSports island.
Gaming in the Middle East is about to reach a whole another level as the world’s first eSports island gears up to make its way to Abu Dhabi. The UAE capital city has been chosen as the home to the exciting new destination worth US $280 million by True Gamers, a global network of eSports lounges founded in 2019.
The island will be built near the Al Seef area of Abu Dhabi and will house state-of-the-art gaming venues, professional training facilities, and content creation spaces, as well as a luxurious hotel aimed at providing an “immersive eSports experience”, the company said. Professional players and lovers of PUBG, Fortnite, Counter-Strike, and League of Legends, will also benefit from curated experiences inspired by the games, with a PUBG-style parachute check-in reportedly in the plans for the hotel.
Other highlights of the eSports island include a business hub called Digital Tower featuring workspaces, an accelerator for startups, high-speed technologies, and more aimed at fostering technological innovation and entrepreneurship. The TG Arena will house spaces for esports tournaments, a computer club with around 100 machines, a simulation racing section, and a space for console gaming. There are also plans to develop a children’s eSports camps to help nurture the next generation of gaming enthusiasts, alongsisde an “American college fraternity-style GG (good game) Bootcamps section”. Here, professional players will be able to prepare for major tournaments, while having access to nutritious food, personal space, and quality equipment.
A timeline for the island has not been disclosed, and True Gamers states that it is working with investors to secure funding. “We believe eSports Island will be a groundbreaking achievement in the entertainment industry, offering guests the perfect blend of relaxation and exceptional competitive gaming,” said Vlad Belyanin, CPO and co-founder of True Gamers, in a statement.
