In this digital age when every celebrity is on almost every social media platform, it may be hard to believe that Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t already have a YouTube account. It probably explains why the news of its launch not only broke the internet but also a record, mere hours after the football star made the announcement.
On Wednesday, the Al-Nassr FC forward took to Instagram to reveal that he would be starting a YouTube account named ‘UR Cristiano‘ to share moments from his life. “The wait is over. My @YouTube channel is finally here! SIUUUbscribe and join me on this new journey,” Cristiano Ronaldo wrote. That’s all it took for more than one million people to subscribe to his YouTube channel within 90 minutes, breaking the record for the fastest account to reach the milestone. Ronaldo later received a golden play button from the streaming platform for surpassing a million subscribers and posted a video of him showing it to his children.

Currently with only 12 videos on his YouTube account, Ronaldo holds 30.4 million subscribers, surpassing those of eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and Argentina captain Lionel Messi’s subscriber count of 2.31 million. The achievement only makes sense when looking at the number of followers on Ronaldo’s other social media platforms, which include Facebook with 170 million, X (formerly Twitter) with 112.6 million, and Instagram with 636 million.
Posts on UR Cristiano range from travel docu-style videos from his trip to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Project with his family, and fun games with his partner Georgina Rodriguez, to inspiring and motivational content about overcoming adversity.
