Earlier last year we heard that Egyptian-Canadian star Mena Massoud would star in his first ever Egyptian movie Fi Ezz Eddohr (In Broad Light), written by Karim Sorour and directed by Mark Adel. Now, the star has officially landed in Cairo to begin the preparations and start shooting.

Massoud, who was a huge smash when he hit the screens as the lead in the Disney fantasy film Aladdin directed by Guy Ritchie  back in 2019, will feature in this new outing alongside other huge Arab acting clout such as Mohamed Ali Rizk, Mahmoud Hegazy, and Mohamed Ezz.

The actor, comedian and singer will play the role in the upcoming crime-thriller of the boss of an international criminal network. The flick will take viewers through a tense and action-packed narrative of suspense, with a love story interwoven in there to boot.

The 27-year-old star was born in Cairo to Egyptian parents before later emigrating to Canada. Massoud then took the leap to further his career with a relocation to Los Angeles two years ago, and it appears to have been a good call as his career continues to go from strength to strength.

It has been reported that Disney has also now commissioned screenwriters John Gatins and Andrea Berlo to work on a sequel to Aladdin following the films blockbusting success. Aladdin 2 will be directed by Ritchie again and the producers have picked Massoud, Will Smith, and Naomi Scott to come back in the sequel. There’s no official release date yet for the reprise of Aladdin, the Genie and friends, although Massoud will no doubt be kept busy until then.
