Music streaming platform Spotify has revealed it’s most downloaded tunes of the year, and no surprise its 2020 Wrapped Lists is filled with pop music hits, with listeners choosing happier, high tempo beats to cheer them up during the pandemic.
The list defines how 320 million people around the world listened and discovered audio via the platform, and in the UAE results show BTS, Travis Scott and Drake topped the list of most streamed artists followed by the late rapper Juice WRLD and The Weeknd. Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa were the only female artists to make it to the UAE’s top 10 list.
Award-winning artist, The Weeknd, who was recently snubbed from Grammy nominations, saw his album After Hours reach number one in the most-streamed album list – the album has enjoyed more than 200 million streams worldwide. However, his hit single Blinding Lights came in at number two on the most-streamed song list, coming in after The Box by Roddy Ricch. Falling by Trevor Daniel came in third place.
