If you had to choose the best man in Hollywood to play the controversial zookeeper Joe Exotic, aka ‘Tiger King’ who would you cast? Well, it would appear a group producers have got there first. They have plans in the works to have Nicolas Cage star in a scripted series about the scandalous big cat fiend.

Known internationally for his appearances in smash-hit movies like Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, and Face/Off he also recently featured as a voice-over artist in the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. New appearances on the big screen coming out later this year include The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. But it’s this eight-episode series being produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios that fans are most excited about.

This will be Oscar-winning actor Cage’s first-ever TV role. He will also reportedly executive produce the series via Saturn Films. Based on the Texas Monthly article ‘Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,’ by Leif Reigstad, he’ll portray Joe Schreibvogel, aka Joe Exotic, an eccentric zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park even at the risk of losing his sanity. The series will delve deep into Joe’s story, telling of the unraveling of this larger than life character, and eventually how he landed in prison.

Tiger King dropped on Netflix on March 20 and became an instant global phenomenon. According to Nielsen data, the series is estimated to have reached an audience of 34.3 million unique viewers in its first 10 days of release. Let’s see if Cage’s portrayal can match up to these stats.

All that’s left to do now is speculate over who will play the part of Carole Baskin?
