Vogue Man Arabia inaugural cover star Tamer Hosny has pledged to help people in need from his home country during the current health care crisis. He has personally offered to pay the bills of 400 families in Egypt to allow them to self-isolate at home safely and comfortably without financial burden.

Since most families have been advised by the authorities to stay at home as a precaution, high-profile Egyptians have recognized the need to offer support.

The initiative was originally set up by charity Resala on March 20th and has already seen huge stars such as Ahmed El Sakka and Ghada Abdel Razek, sporting stars Mahmoud Trezeguet and Saad Samir, as well as pop royalty Hosny himself step up to the plate.

The charity has named the challenge, ‘Tahady Al Kheir’, or ‘Good Challenge’. The premise is a chain reaction challenge. One celebrity nominates the next to make a pledge of financial support to a dedicated number of families in need. At which point they will then take it upon themselves to nominate another celebrity, and so on. Amr Youssef kicked things off by pledging to support 100 families for a month. “Staying home is a very good decision. It is a way to stop corona from spreading.”, he commented in his video on social, before making a call out to Hosny who responded by going the extra mile and promising to sponsor 400 families. “We all want people to stay home and God will hopefully allow us to overcome this challenge successfully,” he said. “There will be people who can stay home and those who can’t because of their work, and this is why we are doing this campaign to help you.”

Next Hosny nominated Liverpool FC footballer Mo Salah, entrepreneur Ahmed Abou Hashima, and actor Ahmed El Sakka. El Sakka responded first, with a promise to help 70 families. He then encouraged Abdel Razek to take part, who took up the mantle to support 100 families. Hend Sabri has also since accepted the challenge. “I will look after 100 families and may God bless everyone for any kind acts during this difficult period. We are strong in faith and belief and as a people we are strong.”, she commented.

Vogue Arabia March cover star and Syrian singer Assala Nasri, who is a resident of Egypt, pledged to support 100 families before nominating her daughter Sham.

The challenge has already been thrown out to other Egyptian stars, so it is likely to keep evolving after such a positive impact on morale across the country.  Watch this space!
