Renowned nautical watch brand Ulysse Nardin has released a limited edition timepiece to mark nine years of the Monaco Yacht Show. In its nine-year history, the Monaco Yacht Show has seen more than its fair share of luxury, both on the water and on dry land. And this Marine Chronometer Annual Calendar Monaco, which has been limited to just 100 pieces, is a timepiece of some pedigree.
Encapsulating Ulysse Nardin’s maritime DNA and horological excellence, the watch features a streamlined annual calendar. Typically, such a calendar would require up to 30 components. However, the Ulysse Nardin watchmakers managed to streamline this complicated system to a mere seven elements.
Simple to use, the watch is the epitome of innovation in the service of practicality, as it requires a date adjustment only once a year. Inside, the UN-113 caliber movement – including the silicium escapement and balance spring – enables the calendar date-setting both forwards and backwards. This is yet another simplification and is made entirely in-house at the Ulysse Nardin workshop.
A further celebration of the Monaco Yacht Show is revealed in other details, such as the white lacquered dial with its distinctive blue Roman numeral indexes – a feature of each timepiece in the Ulysse Nardin’s Marine collection – or the “Monaco 2017” inscribed on the dial.
The dates of the Monaco Yacht Show (27, 28, 29, 30) and the month of September are highlighted in blue, instead of black. Given the watch’s maritime heritage, it is fittingly water resistant to 100m.
The watch’s 43mm stainless-steel case is equipped with a fluted bezel and a rubberized screw-down security crown. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal reveals the UN movement in the open caseback, and a rubber strap with folding clasp and titanium element keeps it firmly in place.
