An unmissable auction for watch enthusiasts and collectors is making its way to New York on December 5. Hosted by Christie’s, the sale features 24 remarkable timepieces that have toured Geneva and Hong Kong, before arriving in the Big Apple to be exhibited from December 1 to 4 at the Rockefeller Centre in Manhattan. Arguably, the most noteworthy watch in the collection is one owned by Andy Warhol.

The iconic American artist’s Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Ref 3448 is one of his many prized possessions collected over his lifetime, that collectively came to be known as “Andy’s stuff”. While everything was auctioned off in a 10-day long sale that followed his death in February 1987, this watch was sold once again to its current owner in 2014. According to Christie’s, the 18k Gold Automatic Perpetual Calendar Wristwatch with Moon Phases is in “superb overall condition,” having been fully cleaned and restored by Patek Philippe in the mid-1980s. Other notable features of the watch include a last series saltine opalin dial by Stern Freres, with the Aprior mark at six o’clock on either side of the word Swiss. Given these factors and its rarity, Christie’s estimates the timepiece at around US $350,000-$600,000.

Other watches on offer at the auction include a Patek Phillipe 2001 Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref 5002P-001 ($1,200,000-$2,200,000), which features the brand’s first-ever double dial, a Rolex Daytona “Paul Newman” Oyster Sotto, ref 6263 ($200,000-$400,000), and a Richard Mille Unique RM 018 “Hommage A Boucheron” ($500,000-$1,000,0000). The latter is one of the 30 pieces worldwide created in celebration of Boucheron’s 150th anniversary in 2008, and is set with minerals, including tiger’s eye, onyx, jasper and diamond.
