Anwar Hadid and Vic Mensah Lead the Pack of Young Men Donating Shoes for a Cause

On Sunday afternoon, Anwar Hadid teamed up with the SaveMoney/SaveLives foundation – co-founded by Chicago rapper Vic Mensah – to support the Anti-Bait Truck Shoe Giveaway at Chicago’s West Englewood Community Center. The charitable event was held in response to a police sting earlier this month that involved officers trying to entrap residents from impoverished, mostly black communities, using a “bait truck” filled with designer shoes in order to lure and arrest civilians. Hadid, basketball player Chass Bryan, activist Shaun King, and student-led advocacy collective Good Kids Mad City were among the hundreds of people and organizations who donated shoes and their time to the event.

The Anti-Bait Truck Shoe Giveaway was a huge success, drawing in thousands of local kids and teenagers who, in addition to receiving brand new, still-in-boxes shoes, also got to have free haircuts. The heart-warming event and the charitable actions of all of those involved served to inspire many, including Algerian model (and Kourtney Kardashian’s former flame) Younes Bendjima. The boxer took to his Instagram stories to share videos and photos of himself giving away a pair of Converse trainers to an impoverished man in downtown Los Angeles, writing: “Yo Converse, thanks for taking care, but you know I had to spread the love back.” He also posted a screenshot of Hadid and Bryan at the Chicago giveaway, writing: “Big, big shoutout to [Hadid] and [Bryan] for what they did yesterday. Gave away thousands of shoes with love. You inspired me.”

Hadid’s sister Bella also took to the photo-sharing platform to support her younger brother. The half-Palestinian model uploaded a video from the event to her page, captioning it: “PSA. This. This is it. @vicmensa @anwarhadid @shaunking @cb_3 (SO MANY MORE PEOPLE TO TAG FOR Their hard work dedication energy!!!!) @savemoneysavelife !!! What a huge project to take on, and done with such ease. Shows what kind of change you can make through LOVE instead of HATE. These are the movements that mean everything!!!!!! Radiate Love !!! literally nothing else matters except for those smiling faces. love it so much. #antibaittruck movement ! Give opportunity over anything.”
