Anwar Hadid is a model for our times. The younger brother of Gigi and Bella, he’s done much of his growing up in front of the camera, on Instagram (he’s got 1.6 million followers and rising), and on the catwalk. Anwar booked his first cover at just 16 years-old (Teen Vogue, looking very cool in an orange NASA top) and, like his sisters, has a modeling contract with IMG. He joined them on the catwalk for the London Fashion Week Tommy Hilfiger show for SS18, but far from riding his older siblings’ coattails, Anwar is a rising star with a look that’s both classic (there’s a touch of Elvis about him) and very now. He’s well on course to be one of the faces of his generation.

This is his first shoot for Vogue Man Arabia and he answered a few questions to go with it.

What do you wear to hang out with friends? What labels are you into?
I usually wear sweat pants or some comfy loose pants and a hoodie if I’m going to hang out with friends. Right now I’m wearing a lot of vintage Comme des Garçons, and I like a lot of the newer Dior. I also always stay with my Martyre chains and rings on.

You said you’d like to design your own clothes in future. What type of thing do you have in mind? Streetwear? Formal? Something else?
I’m now designing jewelry and will have some pieces out pretty soon. But I wouldn’t categorize my clothing or jewelry as streetwear or formal. Or categorize it at all for that matter.

For sneakers: Nike or Adidas?
Adidas. Although I’m not really a sportswear kind of guy.

What style advice do you have for other people your age?
Wear clothes that fit you and put yourself into the clothes you wear. Express yourself through the clothing and make every piece you have your own.

What’s the best thing about being a model?
I can travel the world for work.

You’ve posted pics of Nirvana on your Instagram. Are you a big fan of early 1990s grunge? What music are you into?
Yes, but I don’t listen to that type of music daily. I listen to a lot of hip hop regularly.

Have you been to the Middle East recently, or do you have plans to visit?
I have not been recently, but I have always wanted to visit Syria and Lebanon with one of my good friends who is originally from there.

I read you were really good at soccer while at school. Did you fancy a career in sports? Who’s your team?
I was alright. I feel like every kid that plays sports wants to be a professional at one point. I love watching the Dutch teams play, but I’m a Man United fan.

Where’s the best place to eat in your home town?
Taverna Tonys in Malibu and Tre Luna in Santa Barbara.

What’s the hardest thing about being a teenager in 2017?
People forming expectations of how you are as a person and how you should or should not be.

Which talent would you most like to have?

What is your motto?
Everything happens for a reason.
