Kim Jones’s artistic collaborations for Dior are a highlight of the menswear season, and the British designer’s fa;;/winter 2021 tie-up is as decidedly romantic, yet painfully cool as ever. The painter Peter Doig lent Jones his striking landscapes – which reference film, photography and art – as canvases for his coats, knitwear and shirting. The Scotsman’s fascinating way with colours also appears to have helped inform the palette of Jones’s latest menswear. The collection was awash with quietly ingenious pairings; from lilac-grey and baby blue interspersed with tomato-red to jolts of sunshine yellow against the deepest burgundy.
While the bags (check out the lustrous gold mini Saddle in look six) and berets adorned with painterly symbols are certainly worth bookmarking for next season, Jones’s expertly refined Pantone mash-up begs to be worn now. Consider the above Dior Men’s looks the shot in the arm you need to break out of your now-default beige loungewear mode. Artistic licence welcome.
