Dior’s summer 2023 men’s collection takes us through space and time, celebrating artistic legacy and the brand’s forth-going destiny in full bloom. Kim Jones, artistic director of menswear, explains how the collection is an ode to the passage of time and the changing of light and seasons, honoring the legacy of Dior and the artworks of British painter Duncan Grant.

The luminous line this season intertwines utilitarian gardening elements with the luxurious facets of Dior. With the changing of seasons serving as inspiration for the collection, we take a journey from the legendary gardens of Christian Dior to the English countryside, where Duncan Grant spent most of his time. Both creatives used their gardens and homes as private spheres where their creativity could come alive.

One piece at a time, the new collection reflects the notion of the changing of light and the creative touch of nature. Painted in hues of classic and luxurious Dior grays, pastels, and rose pinks, the ensembles are brushed with additional tones of greens and blues, resembling the iconic gardens of Dior and Grant. This collection is an effortless blend of extravagant and practical pieces, merging the informality of gardening and nature, with the formality of Dior’s signature design codes. Tailored shorts with turned-down waistbands, duster coats and double-breasted tailored coats take centre stage. The reflective gilet embedded with touches of neon tangerine is an ode to Duncan Grant’s Lily Pond Screen, which illuminates a rural color palette with the same striking color.

On a parallel design journey, Kim Jones’s creativity continues, dreaming up more inspiring pieces in an exclusive men’s collection for the Middle East that focuses on merging the Maisons’ past with modern ideas. From tailored double-breasted jackets to silk shorts adorned with the infamous Dior Oblique motif, this collection blends the Dior’s classic tailoring with an eye-catching contemporary perspective. Deep shades of burgundy, green and beige refine and polish casual sportswear pieces. Enhanced by the iconic fashion house’s fundamental use of gold, this collection is a unique ode to Dior’s heritage and infinite creativity.
