Sustainable label Emergency Room took a dive into its archives for its show Day 2 of Dubai Fashion Week, which also celebrated the 5th anniversary of the brand founded by Eric Ritter.
Emergency Room was born in Beirut after Ritter had left the stability and comfort of working in a luxury fashion house, Zuhair Murad. His desire for something different had taken him to Tripoli, a city north of Beirut, where he got lost in the streets of old souks and the stories from local women learning from them all he knew about making clothes. This is where the designer realized clothes could be so much more – a way of celebrating real people, cultures, and of course, the planet.
Today, Ritter has built a renowned label based on elements such as upcycling, locally sourced material, strong and ethical relationships with craftsmen and tailors, and models from all walks of life.

Tell us a bit about your collection being showcased at Dubai Fashion Week.
This collection marks and celebrates our fifth anniversary as a brand. The ‘Home Sweet Home’ collection is a deep dive into our archives. Forgotten looks and ideas with strong nostalgic value, popular demand, and overlooked potential are revisited.
What kind of a man/woman are your designs made for?
Our designs are made for people that have strong values and are aware of their position and impact on the world we live in. People that look like us, that are unafraid to speak up, while respecting and looking out for others. Strong people with a penchant for fun and quirky things.
How does it feel to be a part of the inaugural Dubai Fashion Week?
We’ve been showing in Dubai with the Arab Fashion Council for a while now. Every show is an opportunity to rediscover and reconnect with this city, and more importantly now with a global fashion industry.
Name one regional and international celebrity you would love to see in your designs.
We’re very lucky to be surrounded by great artists that are extremely talented and have a great sense of style, we’re always happy to dress them. Some people I’d really like to dress though are Celine Dion, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, and Rosalia.
What’s next for your brand?
Well, hopefully, more points of sale so people all over the world can shop our designs and join our ever-growing family.
