Only a few months ago, Vogue Arabia was in Paris, attending the Hermès show at the Mobilier National building, a great concrete block designed by Auguste Perret in 1936. At the time, the ambiance outside the show and in the street was reaching a heightened fervor. A French labor union representing furniture makers had decided to use the buzz around the show to voice concern (and throw eggs) for government cuts and policy potentially eroding the preservation of craft.
Ironically, in fashion, there is perhaps no greater protector of craft as Hermès. As protestors tried to burst through the steely iron gates, showgoers were ushered through with the help of tightened security. Of course, no one could have foreseen the new reality of today: no physical men’s or couture shows due to a global pandemic. And yet, the show goes on. Hermès will Livestream its Spring/Summer 2021 men’s show here, today, at 2pm Paris time (4pm Dubai time). Creative director Véronique Nichanian will feature her newest collection – that you can watch right here on Vogue Man Arabia – alongside a live performance imagined with the artistic collaboration of French contemporary scenographer Cyril Teste.
