Everything to Know About the Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule Collection by Virgil Abloh

The wait is over, as has finally unveiled its limited-edition capsule collection with the National Basketball Association (NBA). Designed by the artistic director of the French fashion house’s menswear, Virgil Abloh, the Louis Vuitton x NBA collection is part of the three-year deal with the NBA.

“Fashion muses aren’t predictable,” said Abloh in a statement. “Ideas of luxury can be found in the sports world and its champions as much as in traditional forms of artistry. This collection celebrates the cultural contribution of basketball and its diverse characters, and the idea of relatability as a force of unity today,” he added. The designer is constantly looking to push the boundaries of luxury with everything he does, which is why this collaboration merging the worlds of sportswear and luxury fashion fits right in with his body of work.

NBA and streetwear enthusiasts first got a glimpse of the collection on October 11, when the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat. The Larry O’Brien championship trophy was presented to the winning team in a custom-made Louis Vuitton Trophy Travel Case. Hand-built by six craftsmen for more than 100 hours at the fashion house’s workshops in Asnières, Paris, the bespoke case features the signature Louis Vuitton monogram all over and microfiber lining in the NBA’s trademark blue.

The Louis Vuitton x NBA collection features ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, and jewelry pieces. Divided into three sections: travels, game arrivals, and the press conference dress code, the entire collection is based on the idea of a player’s wardrobe. The color palette includes the colors of the NBA: red, white, and blue which also make up the colors of the French flag.
