As Sean Connery Celebrates His 90th Birthday, We Celebrate His Classic Style

Recently voted the most popular James Bond, Sean Connery has a lot to smile about as he celebrates his 90th birthday today.

Most noted for his role as the first-ever 007 James Bond, Connery has said in the past that the role changed his life “enormously”. It was in a recent poll for the UK’s Radio Times, that he was named the “best Bond”, ahead of his rivals including Daniel Craig and Roger Moore.

Throughout his incredible career, he has maintained not only a great relationship with the fans but a classic sense of style that many have shed along the way. From the sharpest of sharp suits to his turtleneck and chino mastery and just enough tweed, this is a man who can look as equally stylish on the red carpet as he can on the golfing greens.

As his famous tones have ever eluded to, Connery was born in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, on August 25, 1930.

In a Hollywood-worthy tale in its own right, he famously started out his working life as a milkman before landing a small part in the musical South Pacific in 1953 and taking his steps into the acting game.

He went on to be Knighted in 2000, has been named “The Greatest Living Scot” and even “Scotland’s Greatest Living National Treasure”. Never shy to show his patriotism, Connery has been seen sporting his kilt and all the trimmings at events on a regular basis over the years, too.

Connery has not appeared on the big screen since his role in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen back in 2003 but who could argue with Hollywood ace George Lucas, who worked with Connery in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, quoted as saying: “I think he’ll be remembered as one of the great actors of our time.”

Happy birthday, Sir Connery.
