Sure, it might be a bold move to turn up to brunch with the lads wearing a pair, but if you’re looking for a statement shoe then these are something a bit extra.
The French luxury designer Christian Louboutin has released these shoes, handcrafted in sari fabrics culled from the archives of his close friend, Indian couture designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Louboutin said of this collaboration, “Indian handicraft is the best of the best in the world. The luxuriance of Indian workmanship is at the maximum. I want the world outside of India to love it as I do.”
To create them, he chose to revisit one of the most loved and iconic styles in his collection – Dandelion. The sleek, slip-on loafer, then received the Sabyasachi treatment with construction from new materials and an embroidered toe-cap, reminiscent of Indian wedding shoes.
Our Pick of the Santoni Fall 2017 Collection
All of the embroidery on the shoes is original. The saris and ribbons are highly limited fabrics, requiring a meticulously trained eye to select and hand place every detail. This ensures that no two pairs are totally alike, making each pair a couture creation.
To accompany the release, Louboutin has helped to create the graphic novel A Deep Sleep for Beauty to tell story inspired by the collaboration. The story follows an Indian actress who is freed by, wait for it, two designers with custom-made shoes. A printed book of the story will be offered in store and included inside the custom shoe boxes that have been made to house the collection.
Yes, they are ornately ostentatious, and it takes a confident man to step out wearing them, but if you’re heading to an Indian wedding, pair these with a light linen suit and you’ll more than look the part.
Christian Louboutin x Sabyasachi shoes are available exclusively at select Christian Louboutin flagship boutiques.
