Organizers of the ground-breaking third culture festival Sole DXB have announced that the 2020 installment has been canceled due to complications caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. No doubt the news will leave many sneaker-heads around the region bitterly disappointed.

The announcement came via the festival’s official Instagram account which read: “We are disappointed to be in this position, but we aren’t confident that we can deliver the experience you deserve with the health and safety standards we expect”.

The annual ‘sneaker-fest’ fixture which brought together a vibrant compendium of music, street art, industry talks, cutting-edge streetwear, and fashion has been a highlight on the local calendar since its inception in 2011.

The event had been growing traction having made Dubai’s Design District (D3) its home since 2014 and pulling some big international acts including Stormzy, The Wu-Tang Clan, and Jamaican singer Koffee, who have all wowed crowds at live gigs which became a key feature of the festival’s program.

As well as supporting its mission to provide a platform for grassroots and emerging brands, the event also enjoyed regular involvement from key global athleisure, sport and sneaker brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, and Reebok who have all exhibited at the festival.

Due to the uncertainty around the pandemic and its impact on live events organizers haven’t been able to commit to a new date saying: “We do not have a new date, but once we do, you’ll be the first to know.” They, however, did add that “while this window closes temporarily, we are working on opening a door, and for those that have the headspace and opportunity to create, we will continue to work with you.”

We hope the announcement on when it will make its return comes soon.
