Richard Mille has created the RM 055 Yas Marina Circuit watch exclusively for the UAE.
The watchmaker is the official timing partner of Yas Marina Circuit, so to mark this ongoing partnership, the brand has created the RM 055 in the colors of the track, with the flange and crown rubber decorated in Yas Blue and the addition of the YMC logo on the sapphire case-back.
As is typical with Richard Mille watches, this is technically very impressive. The movement is equipped with a variable-inertia balance wheel, which ensures reliability in the event of impacts and during assembly and dismantling, thus improving the long-term accuracy of the timepiece.
It’s also housed in a case that consists of over 600 layers of carbon fiber, making it exceptionally rigid and highly resistant to impact. In short, it’s a watch person’s watch, and a good test of whether this is something you might be interested in is if you a) understand and b) are impressed, by the following paragraph:
“The regulator index is eliminated, and a more accurate and repeatable inertia adjustment is possible thanks to four small adjustable weights located directly on the balance wheel. The double barrel mechanism helps to improve and equalize long-term torque stability: This is achieved by dispersing the stored energy within two winding barrels, equalizing torque as well as reducing pressure and friction on the bearings and pivots, resulting in improved long-term performance.”
In short, what Mille does exceptionally well is a melding of the art of mechanical watchmaking and incremental improvements in the technical elements and performance. Few do it better.
It’s perhaps appropriate then, being an F1-related watch, that all these technical elements have led to a watch that can withstand accelerations of over 500-G’s. Not that you’re ever likely to experience that while wearing it, but knowing that it can is what makes this something of a technical marvel.
The piece is exclusively available at Richard Mille Boutiques in the Dubai Mall and Galleria Mall in Abu Dhabi.
