K by Dolce & Gabbana is the new fragrance in charge of echoing a fresh era of masculinity into the luxury Italian house. Looking to capture the essence of a man in his element, a man who is the king of his everyday life, the scent aims at respecting tradition yet embracing modernity. The new face is husband, father and entrepreneur Mariano di Vaio. He shares with us more about the fragrance, his history with scent and what it’s like working with the Dolce & Gabbana.
Mariano, what is your first memory of scent?
The smell of the grass, probably. Perugia, my home town, is so different from any other city in the world: you can smell the grass whenever you are because it’s literally surrounded by nature. Everything is green and fresh and sunny. It’s a memorable scent, the kind that gets inside you.
Who do you think the K by Dolce & Gabbana man is?
The K by Dolce&Gabbana man is definitely charismatic. He’s the king of his everyday life not just because of what he achieved, but because he takes care of his family and friends. He knows where he comes from, remembering his roots, and he knows where he’s going in the future. He’s confident, elegant and sexy.
Tell us about the notes featured in K by Dolce & Gabbana?
My favorite is the wooden one. It’s incredibly fascinating and I fell in love with it. The note who surprised me most is the red hot pimento, that invigorates the fragrance, making it more energizing. I also love the fresh citrus top notes.
What makes this fragrance unique?
The fact that this fragrance tells a story. You know, many fragrances just smell good, but this one is inspirational: it has the power of evoking your deepest emotions. You wear it to feel like a king!
What was it like shooting with Dolce & Gabbana?
Let me tell you a secret: it was my teenage dream! When I was younger, I lived between NY and London, working as a model, and I spent a lot of time with other models talking about dreams and goals. We would have all agreed that being a model for Dolce&Gabbana is the ultimate goal a male model could wish for. No lies. Honestly, I’m really enjoying this career opportunity that has been given to me, and I am very grateful for it. Shooting with Dolce & Gabbana and Mariano Vivanco was a dream came true.
What notes are you personally drawn to when choosing a scent?
The wooden ones. The aromatic wooden scents are masculine and sexy.
How do you apply your fragrance?
I target pulse points, such as my inner wrists and neck. Pulse points are hotter than the other zones, so they keep the fragrance alive all day long.
What is your favorite scent that isn’t a fragrance?
Ocean’s smell. It’s so magical and heady, and it reminds me of summer. I spend my summers in Sardinia for as long as I can remember, it’s my happy place, so every time I smell that scent I remember that worry-free lifestyle.
What is your favorite scent that is worn by women?
Floral one. My wife wears Dolce and this fragrance smells gorgeous on her. It’s so feminine and sensual, I love it.
What is your grooming routine?
I never forget hydrating cream! it’s fundamental for face and neck and hands, in particular. I use it every morning and before going to sleep. I also use beard oil to soften my beard. Also, the neck is as important as the face, I never forget it to always look younger.
