Straight cut
Barbershop style hot towel shaves aren’t going anywhere, with men seeking out more of a ritualistic approach to grooming, says Ghassan Harirh, managing partner of the new Akin Barbershop at Dubai’s 25hours Hotel. With the humble shave being elevated to a form of relaxation and enjoyment, Harirh says clients want a combination of curation and precision, rather than a one-size-fits-all service. “We are highly specialized in what we consider to be the masculine essentials – a haircut, beard tune-up, and hot towel shave – as we see a trend of men being more informed than ever and looking for more sophisticated grooming services and products in a cool and contemporary environment,” he explains.

Wheel and deal
New to the boutique gym scene is Camp indoor cycling studio in Downtown Dubai. Each class is choreographed to rise and fall to custom beats, for an immersive sweat session over 45 minutes where you can burn up to 650 calories. The modern space includes amenities-stocked change rooms and prayer rooms, while the mezzanine floor is dedicated to showcasing Dubai-born startups, with the space rotating through creatives including NMZ Jewels and artists Rima Chahine and MaPaul. Co-founder Mohamed Elsayed says that Camp’s classes are a full body workout across mind, body and soul. “Our focus is on mental training, allowing you to realize your strength and stamina,” says the Egyptian entrepreneur. “We use weights, resistance, and the rhythm of powerful music to supercharge each cycling class.” Classes are priced in packages, with an all-inclusive Ramadan rate available as a special one-off.
