Can body-scanning algorithms unlock the secret to better holistic health? We put the tech to the test.

With technology infiltrating every aspect of our lives—from ChatGPT rewriting our social media posts to AI predicting our aging patterns—it’s no surprise that, across the board, industries are onboarding hi-tech devices and methodologies to adapt to a changing world. Enter: endurance athlete Dani Afiouni, who is on a mission to use science-based diagnostic tools as part of a holistic approach to help men like me to be the best versions of themselves. “Wellness is more than the physical,” says Afiouni, who opened the Dubai-based Longevity Wellness Hub earlier this year. “It’s about mind, body, and spirit alignment that leads to genuine, sustainable health.” From trekking up mountains to reaching the heights of health tech, the founder has scaled his way to building a center that simplifies complex concepts. He explains that his vision was born out of his own experience with pushing human endurance to new limits, and wanting to transcribe this feeling onto a space where wellness is not just receiving treatments but rather rewriting one’s day-to-day life.

Ready to make some changes in my own life, I step into the Longevity Wellness Hub’s greenery-adorned hallways to find out more about how to improve my health. Laura Fontaine, the center’s managing director, takes charge. “Our goal is guiding clients through an experience that is as educational as it is restorative, helping them unlock their full potential.” What this frenetic experience will entail is determined by the results of my Quantum Scan (from AED 1 800)—what’s been called a “revolutionary” diagnostic device that delves into an impressive number of small details about a patient’s physical and emotional state of being. Employing a series of tech tools, the scan has me press my palm against a plaque to test levels of minerals and heavy metals present, with a second device reading what it calls the “magnetic resonance.” As I follow these steps, a microphone measures my voice analytics. It’s all very straight forward, non-invasive, and painless—sit here, place your hand there, speak into this—and it’s over in 10 minutes. According to the center, these combined activities assess the energetic fields of the body using principles of quantum physics to extract information that ranges from hormonal imbalances and intolerances to nutritional deficiencies and the presence of viruses, bacteria, and parasites.

Interpreting the data immediately after my scan is quantum biologist Farah Gad, who likens it to a “window into your overall wellness.” As it turns out, I’m high in iron and have a good zinc level. Gad’s suggestion is that while I should consider blood donations, I should not overdo my intake of vitamin C or certain other supplements. To complete the picture, on the emotional side of things, I was advised not to overlook my own needs in service of others.

As I sit and absorb these revelations, what hits me first is the depth of information provided. The scan does not offer exclusively data; it points out what needs attention and improvement across a range of areas. “We often focus on symptoms, but the Quantum Scan helps us address the root causes,” Gad tells me. “It’s about taking a proactive approach to health, rather than just reacting to problems as they arise.” By also considering a patient’s state of mind, insights can be provided related to stress levels and even the balance of your chakras—the debated energy system that forms the basis of some Eastern medicine theories. “This is where science meets spirituality,” Gad says.

Based on my results, I am given a tailored wellness plan that kicks off on the very same day as my scan. This includes an oxygen chamber session, infrared bed and sauna, and ice bath. Leaving the Longevity Wellness Hub, I was more than just physically rejuvenated; I felt armed with deep insight into my health and wellbeing. For me, this is just the beginning.
