Anwar Hadid has teamed up with American director and producer of Palestinian and Italian descent Vin Arfuso, to create a documentary set in Palestine. The project’s team also includes English musician and co-founder of the celebrated rock band Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, and the grandson of anti-apartheid revolutionary and former South African President Nelson Mandela, Kweku Mandela.
The part-Palestinian model’s documentary titled Walled Off references The Walled Off Hotel, designed by renowned and anonymous artist Banksy, and located in Bethlehem. The hotel is named after the West Bank Wall and is infamously known for having “the worst view in the world.”
Arfuso recently took to Instagram to share the teaser of the documentary. The one-minute video brings to light the importance of socially and politically charged art and shows The Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem. “Artists working in this realm strive to provide a counterpoint to the prevailing images of power and also to the stereotypes that are fed to us by the media,” says the teaser.

Although the plot of the film is still unclear, it was said that the movie was shot in “guerilla-style” as the director’s camera and equipment were seized on arrival. It is also expected that Hadid will make a cameo in the documentary.
A pre-release screening of the movie will be held at the San Carlo auditorium in Albenga, Italy on September 8 as part of European artist and activist Cake$’s debut solo exhibition. Named ‘A Child is Born in Bethlehem’, the event is curated by British-Palestinian Art Dealer, Curator, Activist, and Journalist Zayna Al-Saleh along with Italian Art Collector and Curator Lorenzo Sibilla.
