Lamborghini Urus – The Super SUV Has Finally Arrived

It’s been coming for some time, but Lamborghini has finally unveiled their finished super SUV – the Urus.

It was first seen way back in 2012 at the Beijing Auto Show, but as we know, concept cars often don’t go into production. We all knew that Lamborghini was going to be entering the increasingly-crowded luxury SUV market, which already has the Bentley Bentayga and Porsche Cayenne as well the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen and various Range Rovers, but this takes the SUV in the supercar territory.

It will reach a top speed of 305 kph (190 mph), but more impressively it can accelerate from zero to 100 kph in 3.6 seconds. That’s fast. In fact, it’s the same 0-100 time as a Ferrari Enzo or a Ferrari California, an Aston Martin Vantage GT3, an Audi R8 V10 Spyder, a Porsche 911 GT3 or Lamborghini’s own Murcielago LP640.

Perhaps just as importantly, the Urus will brake from 100 kph to zero in 33.7 meters.

It’s much lighter than most SUVs because of the extensive usage of carbon fiber reinforced polymer, much like their sports cars, and Lamborghini has developed a new 4.0 L twin-turbo V8 that will only exist in this vehicle. With its 650-horsepower, that twin-turbo V8 engine, the Urus is something genuinely new and an SUV that has never been seen before on the road. And off road, Lamborghini has said that the Urus lets you drive on any terrain, including sand dunes.

There’s a five-seat interior and the cabin features lots of premium leather, aluminum, carbon fiber and wood.

Included on the steering wheel is vibration damping as well as multifunction switches that control the infotainment and other resources in a control center that in terms of design is very reminiscent of the Lamborghini Huracan – right down to the bright red start button that looks like it’s taken from a fighter jet. There’s also a digital and customizable TFT display presenting information in animated 3D.

The price is going to be around $220,000 and you can expect to see one changing lanes without indicating on Sheikh Zayed Road in the near future.
