Former world boxing champion and Olympic silver medallist, Amir Khan, has confirmed he will be making a move from Britain to Dubai in the coming months. Part of the star’s motive for the life-change is to bring boxing to the UAE, which is already well-known as a hub for commitment to sports development.
Khan, who hails from Bolton, UK confirmed his move at the launch of a new lifestyle platform “X” by OJ Lifestyle, which took place in the Coca-Cola Arena, earlier this week.
As Khan gears up towards an official retirement from boxing, the sportsman, who plans to open a boxing academy in Dubai, will also be partnering with longtime friend, British expat entrepreneur – Omar Jackson, founder of “X” by OJ Lifestyle as he looks to move into the business side of the sport.
Khan said of the move: “I’ve tried to keep it a secret, but I thought it would be a good change. I’ll still be going back and forth between Bolton and Dubai, but I want to do a lot more in Dubai and I’m in talks with the Dubai Sports Council and Omar Jackson (of the OJ Lifestyle brand) to improve the boxing landscape here. Maybe one day we could have a boxing arena in the Coca-Cola arena! Moving here is definitely a challenge, but also an opportunity to open more doors for boxing in Dubai.”
