Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have given us a sneak peek of the shiny new Expo 2020 metro station. Dubbed ‘Route 2020’, the AED 11 billion project was completed earlier this year in July and is expected to be open to the general public this coming September.

The project has been given the green light when it was officially inaugurated by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Since then the RTA has released a video on their social channels giving us a full tour of the facilities in all of its glory, commenting on the stations “aviation-inspired design, in harmony with the neighboring area.”

The project will extend the existing red line route by an additional 15 kilometers adding seven new stations to the line As an extension from Nakheel Harbour & Tower Station to Expo Station, it will pass through Dubai Investments Park, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, and Jumeirah Golf Estates. The estimated travel time from the Expo site to Dubai Marina is around just 16 minutes.

True to the visionary form of the project, the new stations will be modern and fully equipped with all of the latest technology, such as a newly installed smart gate system. And it does not only have the metro stops themselves that have been overhauled, as around 50 new trains will be operational on this line to offer optimal service to the public to and from the site.

You can find full journey information on the RTA website. Expo 2020 was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic but will now take place from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.
