The second edition of the annual Dubai Fitness Challenge kicked off this weekend, drawing thousands of gym enthusiasts and fitness fans to Dubai Festival City for the Opening Weekend Carnival for a host of heart-pumping activities. On Friday, Festival City Mall was offering dozens of fitness challenges for adults and children, both outdoors and on the waterfront, that all UAE residents and those visiting could participate in. Activities ranged from beginner workouts to more intense training, and included HIIT, Zumba, martial arts, dance sessions, biking, tugs-of-war, and much more.

The Dubai Fitness Challenge was established last year by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in an attempt to make Dubai the most active city in the world. For 30 days, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council urged people living in the city to pledge to complete 30 minutes of physical activity a day for 30 days. The challenge asks people to sign up online as either an individual, a private organization, a government organization, or a school, with all participants tasked with completing 30 minutes of physical activity per day throughout the duration of the challenge.

UAE residents woke up to a text message from Faz, as he’s affectionately known, on Friday morning, personally inviting them to take part in the challenge, which ends on November 24. For a month, those living in the UAE will be able to benefit from a host of free outdoor activities, fitness sessions, and gym classes, most of which can be accessed through the all-new Dubai Fitness App. Read on for the different ways to take part in the second Dubai Fitness Challenge this week.
