Lewis Hamilton kicked off his summer break during the 2024 F1 season in Morocco and took to Instagram to share his photo diary.
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton‘s love for Africa is almost as well known as his racing career, so it is not surprising that he kicked off his summer in Morocco this year. The British driver—who has roots tracing back to Grenada in the Caribbean—recently took to Instagram to share his experience in Morocco. The album of pictures shared with Hamilton’s 37.5 million followers shows the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team driver in the desert with his friends, posing with a buggy, riding a camel, and admiring the artwork by German artist Hannsjörg Voth. The 39-year-old ended the album with a picture of the Moroccan flag.
In the caption, Hamilton spoke about feeling a sense of calm during his visit. “For a second year, I’m so fortunate to travel through Africa during the break,” he wrote. “The first time around I was overwhelmed by just how beautiful and healing this world can be, and this trip is no different. Just like last time, I’m feeling more and more re-centered and at peace as the days go by.” Speaking of the beauty of Morocco, which was the first stop on his vacation, he added, “Words can’t describe the experience, hopefully, photos come close.”

Hamilton’s first visit to the African continent took place in August 2022, and it was one of self-discovery as he learned more about his roots and the origins of his last name. Since then, Hamilton has vowed to continue racing in Formula 1 until South Africa gets its own Grand Prix. The driver’s love for the region also shines through his other ventures, including his recently announced ambassadorship of Dior Men. As a guest designer, Hamilton joined forces with the brand’s artistic director Kim Jones, to work on an upcoming collection inspired by Africa, and using sustainable material sourced from Burkina Faso. “Focusing on conscious choices and pushing boundaries with each piece, while merging inspiration from my roots in Africa—drawing from their fabrics and belief in natural materials, as well as vibrant colors and powerful energy—has been so inspiring,” said Hamilton.
