There are few things that can beat gliding down a highway in a Rolls-Royce, the powerful engine purring you on as traffic parts in front of you. Now pack that punch into the first SUV from the luxury British brand and drive it to a desert nature reserve, and you have the makings of a weekend out of the city like no other.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan – named after the biggest diamond ever mined – offers the SUV connoisseur an unprecedented combination of comfort and capability. Noiselessly, effortlessly, smoothly, the Cullinan cruises to The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Al Wadi Desert, barely an hour north of Dubai. Here, the Cullinan smoothly snaps into off-road mode, cruising over the dunes and sand without disturbing the abundant wildlife. The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah is nestled within the 1 235-acre Al Wadi nature reserve, where majestic Arabian oryx – brought back from the brink of extinction thanks to concerted conservation efforts – can roam free and guests can enjoy the sight of Arabian gazelles leaping through the desert landscape.

The Cullinan offers the ultimate in travel luxury, no matter your destination. An entirely new bespoke feature ensures every trip is tailor-made to your wants: the Recreation Module. This motorized storage compartment is designed to fit invisibly into the luggage compartment floor of the Cullinan, adding 48 liters of extra space – and Rolls-Royce will custom configure it with whatever you need to match your lifestyle. Heading to Kite Beach? Your entire kit will fit in individually tailored containers, accessible at the touch of a button. How about a picnic for eight? Not a problem with the Hosting Service option, that even includes Rolls-Royce branded highball glasses. And since the Recreation Module can be removed and stored separately, you can commission one for each of your hobbies, from skiing to photography. The module can also be trimmed to match or contrast with the car’s interior and exterior. Of course, in an environment as spectacular as the Al Wadi desert, there is only one Recreation Module you’ll want: the Viewing Suite. Unique to the Cullinan, the Viewing Suite encompasses two effortlessly power-deployed leather chairs, a retractable cocktail table, and even a foot stool – all bespoke to your specifications, of course – ensuring you always have the best seat in the house.

Being a Rolls-Royce obviously means the Cullinan is about so much more than the bells and whistles – even if those are bespoke and bountiful. Challenging terrains are no match for its lighter architecture and self-leveling air suspension, with its Everywhere button instantly engaging the off-road setting. The reworked 6.75 liter twin-turbo V12 Rolls-Royce engine delivers 850Nm of torque to the all-wheel drive and steer system, which means even the desert dunes are no match for the Cullinan’s roaring machine. It’s also the world’s first “three-box” SUV, with its rear partition wall meaning passengers are separated from the luggage compartment, as well as being the only purpose-built luxury SUV currently on the market. Luxury off-road travel has never been as easy, practical, or sophisticated – the most difficult thing about your desert trip would be leaving the soothing sands behind as you glide home, the beautifully illuminated Spirit of Ecstasy leading the way.
