Egyptian sports star Mohamed Salah has equaled Christiano Ronaldo’s Premier League goal scoring record of achieving 84 goals in the competition, and in 65 fewer games.

Juventus player Ronaldo, who has not played in the Premier League since leaving former club Manchester United in 2009, netted 84 goals in a total of 196 appearances across six seasons of the Premier League, whereas Liverpool FC forward Salah has matched the number of goals in just 131 games.

The 28-year-old footballer reached the achievement after Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers FC on Sunday, December 6. The match marked Salah’s first goal since returning to the game after testing positive for coronavirus last month.

Since his arrival to Liverpool FC in 2017, the Egyptian King has become a force to be reckoned with; alongside teammates Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino, the trio has arguably formed the best front three attacking formation in modern football. Salah has received numerous accolades in light of his success at Liverpool, including the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award for the 2017-18 season. The same season saw the Egyptian sportsman awarded the Premier League Golden Boot, an award for the leading goalscorer in the league, an award which he also won the following season.

Liverpool’s recent win over Wolves was a momentous occasion for the current Premier League champions. Not only was the victory the 65th league win in a row at their home ground, Anfield, beating the all-time best run set between 1978 and 1981 under legendary manager Bob Paisley, but it was also the first time fans returned to the stadium to watch a match, since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic earlier this year. Only 2,000 fans were permitted into the stadium to watch the match, for what Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp called a “perfect night.” Despite there being over 50,000 fewer fans than usually present at an Anfield game, the crowd filled the stadium with a rendition of the club’s anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.
