International model Francisco Henriques is the face of the campaign for the new fragrance PURE XS by Paco Rabanne as well as being a native of Lisbon, Portugal. One of the most underrated and best value-for-money cities in Europe, if you’re planning on traveling it’s a brilliant place to spend a few days. We asked Francisco to give us a few tips…
I love fresh fish, so I’d recommending going to Cervejaria Ramiro. It’s a really good fish restaurant in the center of Lisbon. I was there for my birthday recently and they serve these giant tiger prawns with lemon and sauce – try those.
Pestana Palace Lisboa. It’s in a really good location and in a restored 19th century palace, it’s really beautiful. Very chic and a classic old hotel in the city.
Head to the Bario Alto and Chiado areas in the center of Lisbon. You can hear some of the traditional music in the bars. It gets really busy in the evening throughout the whole of the center of the city, but there are lots of little places to go. The streets are full of bars, cafes and restaurants.
Go to Café A Brasileira (The Brazilian Lady Cafe) in the Chiado area of the city that is a famous old place to go. It’s been there since 1905 and there’s a statue of the Portuguese poet and writer Fernando Pessoa sitting outside.
The arts museum is excellent and tells the Portuguese story. You’ll learn a lot about the people of the city by going here. Also, if there is a game go and see Sporting Lisbon play football. Look out for Gelson Martins who plays on the left and right, he’s only 22 but he’s going to be really good, and also Bruno Fernandes who is also young but has a big future. We have good players in Portugal. I played in the third division for the team Cova da Piedade when I was younger, but my life is totally different now I’m a model.
Head a little bit out of the city and see Cascais and Estoril, it’s lovely. The Lisbon to Cascais railway line goes the length of the Lisbon coastline and there it’s great for the beach, restaurants and just walking about. The town of Costa da Caparica is about 10km south west of Lisbon and the beach there is good – they get big waves for surfing. Or from Lisbon take the red bridge out of the city and go to Setúbal, there’s a fishing village there with really good restaurants.
